"Pakistan GLOF Project is helping the vulnerable GLOF prone mountain communities in reducing risks and vulnerabilities from GLOFs and snow-melt flash floods in Northern Pakistan. The main objectives of this project are; To develop the human and technical capacity of public institutions to understand and address immediate GLOF risks for vulnerable communities in Northern Pakistan; and to enable vulnerable local communities in northern areas of Pakistan to better understand and respond to GLOF risks and thereby adapt to growing climate change pressures.
Pakistan GLOF Project participated in Consultative workshop on GEF Pakistan National Portfolio. A stall was placed having IEC materials in workshop. GLOF NPM, Field Managers and community representatives of Gilgit and Chitral also participated in this workshop.
Asian Broadcasting Union, in collaboration with Pakistan television Corporation, is conducting a two days workshop on 12th and 13th of February, 2015 at PTV Headquarters, Constitution Avenue, Islamabad on early warnings in connection with the disaster management.
While speaking on “Going the Last Mile: Working with Media and Communities to Save Lives” Muhammad Umar Sheikh, Communication Specialist Pakistan GLOF Project said that Pakistan GLOF Project is aimed at reducing climate change induced risks and vulnerabilities from GLOFs in the northern Pakistan by encouraging community based adaptation measures for climate change- induced GLOFs. The speaker also enlightened the Media trainings that conducted in Chitral and Gilgit for capacity building of media personals.
Communication plays leading role in every aspect of lives i.e. face to face correspondence, exchange of emails, writing a letter and reports or making a telephone call. The Staff Training on effective communications and reporting took place on 15th- 18th December 2014 at the Islamabad Hotel in Islamabad. This communication training was conducted by Master Trainer Mr Syed Furqan Shamsi from GUGGU Consultancy. The overall aim for this training session was to allow participants to develop deep understanding of effective communication process, effective writing and presentation skills.
